Village AiD is a United Kingdom charity that works in five countries in
West Africa (Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Cameroun and Nigeria. YOWE has
been working with VA since 2002 and a lot of learning were generated through
programme development, international conferences, evaluation among others.
Village AiD supports YOWE in capacity building, resource mobilization,
project planning and implementation, governance strengthening etc. Staff of VA
visits YOWE at least once a year and contribute immensely to the development of
the organisation. Staff also gets the chance to participate in programmes
organized by in the UK or any partner country.
·SIMLI AiD, Tamale
Simli AiD is Civil Society Organization (CSO) based in Tamale, Northern
Region and also a partner to Village AiD. Simli shares common values and vision
and works in similar domains as that of YOWE. Partnership between the two
organizations existed since 2003 which generated mutual benefit in areas like
resource generation, training, evaluation and development of long term plan.
·SEND Foundation of West Africa
Social Enterprise Development Foundation of West Africa (SEND
Foundation) is an international CSO that works in Ghana and some West Africa
countries in areas of advocacy, good governance, accountability and trade
literacy.YOWE in 2006 has signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with SEND to implement a 3-year programme dubbed
Grassroots Economic Literacy and Advocacy Programme (GELAP). It focuses on HIPC
Watch, Trade Literacy and Advocacy and CSO Millennium Goal Development
Campaign. Recently, monitoring of Ghana school feeding programme has been added
as a new component.
·Manya Krobo District Assembly/ Ghana Aids
Commission
There exists partnership between Manya Krobo District Assembly and Ghana
Aids Commission on one hand and YOWE on the other for the Implementation of
MSHAP(Multy-Sectoral HIV and AIDS Programme).funded HIV and AIDS programnme in the Manya Krobo district. The
agreement has produced three HIV and AIDS related projects that YOWE had
already implemented. Similar projects are being developed to strengthen the
relationship.
Drama Network:
YOWE has entered into partnership with Drama for
implementation ofMulti-Sectorial HIV
and AIDS Programme (MSHAP) window 4 programme funded by Ghana Aids Commission.
The project is planned for one year and being implemented in Lower Manya Krobo
district till 2010. It covers activities such as community durbars, engagement
with organised groups, condom promotion and house to house education by peer
educators. The project target about eight thousand people across six communities
in the district. There is the possibility of project extension to year two upon
satisfactory implementation.
Tunteeya Drama Troup
YOWE works with
Tunteeya, a drama troupe base in Tamale (northern region of Ghana) in the area
of awareness creation. With funding from UNICEF, YOWE in partnership with
Tunteeya carried out a campaign on iodated salt consumption in Eastern Region
of Ghana. It involved organisation of community durbars in major communities
and distribution of fliers and T-shirts. Social drama was the main development
strategy used in the education. In all seventeen district in the region have
been covered.
Natwork & Networking
Pamoja Ghana
Pamoja Ghana is a coalition of NGOs and other institutions in Ghana adopting REFLECT methodology in their work and in delivering services to communities. It has its office in Accra and membership spreads across the country. As member of the coalition, YOWE participates in all its activities and programmes including annual forum, training (as participants and resource persons), reporting and fund raising. The Project Coordinator was one of the trainers at the recently Action Aid Ghana sponsored Society Tracking AIDS trough Rights (STAR) and UNDP sponsored Info-mediary and REFLECT training workshops organized by Pamoja at Sunyani and Tamale respectively. YOWE is the Eastern Regional representative of the network
Ghana Accountability Circle
Ghana Accountability Circle is a relatively new network pioneered by Action Aid International Ghana (AAIG), Voluntary Service Oversees (VSO), IBIS Ghana, CEDEP and WISE. The main aim of the network is to promote primary accountability as a social responsibility of all stakeholders and constituencies. YOWE has joined this network primarily to instill and develop accountability in all structures and components of its operation and administration which are crucial for the sustainability of the organization.
Ghana HIV and AIDS Network (GHANET)
This is a network of NGOs and other institutions in Ghana working in the area of HIV and AIDS. In relation to YOWE’s intensive work with PLHIV in Manya and Yilo Krobo Districts, the organization plays active roles in GHANET activities in the two districts and at the regional levels. YOWE’s action plans for HIV and AIDS work are developed with significant inputs from GHANET at the National, Regional and District levels.
Collaboration
YOWE collaborates with various organizations such as Department of Social Welfare, Community Development, National Commission on Civic Education, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Manya and Yilo Krobo District Assemblies. Ghana Health Service and Ministry of food and Agriculture.
